Bulldogs fall to FDU, 63-52
Friday, February 21, 2014
Bryant's Corey Maynard and Dyami Starks combined for 33 points Thursday night at the Chace Athletic Center in Smithfield. That was the good news.
The bad news? The rest of the Bulldogs could manage just 19 points, held to 29% shooting from the floor by Fairleigh Dickinson as FDU beat Bryant 63-52.
Mustafaa Jones led the Knights with 19 points as Fairleigh Dickinson snapped a five game losing streak, improving to 9-17 overall, 5-7 in the NEC. FDU managed a 35-34 lead at halftime, then pulled away in the second half, using an 8-2 run to open a 57-49 advantage with 5:33 remaining.
Bryant (16-11, 8-4 NEC) couldn't cut the deficit to less than five points after the run, and didn't score again after Maynard hit a three-pointer with 3:51 remaining.
The Bulldogs shot just 29.6 percent (16-of-54) against the Knights after shooting 58.9 percent in the first matchup between the teams earlier this season, a 95-68 road win for Bryant on January 18th.
The season split with the Knights still leaves Bryant one win short of officially clinching a spot in the NEC post-season tournament for a second straight year. The next opportunity comes Saturday afternoon in the home finale against Central Connecticut at 4:05 pm for Senior Day. The Bulldogs close out the regular season with three straight road games before the NEC Tournament begins March 5th.
